My Favorite Books Of 2020

I know it’s a little late for this, but I had to because I really want to highlight my favorite books of 2020. I have been going back to some bestselling books that I didn’t read when they came out, mainly because I had no avenue for accessing them. Here are some of the books I read and loved in 2020;

Vampire Academy by Richelle MeadI am extremely late to this, but I read the entire 6 part book series in one week. I was hooked on the first read, and I couldn’t stop (book addict here). The series revolves around two teenage girls Lisa and Rose, who go through different adventures, high school life, and the vampire world.

It’s not your typical vampire story. It features three types of vampires more- pure blood vampires but mostly good-natured, dhampir- half human and half vampire and lastly strigoi- immortal vampires and mostly evil.It also has some love stories infused in it, but it’s not the cliché ones, which makes it all the more interesting. As the story progresses, it gets more complicated and still keeps you on the edge of your seat. Once I was done with the books, I didn’t know what to do with my life anymore. I highly recommend it.
A quote from the book, ‘Juliet had it easy, she never had to kill Romeo.’Rating:

The thing around your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Are you even African if you don’t know who Chimamanda is? I have read two of her books so far but never got around to this one. It’s a collection of short stories released in 2009. All the stories sound like well-written autobiographies with a mix of fiction.

She talks about being an immigrant in the US, having an arranged marriage, sibling rivalry, life in war, infidelity, oppression, poverty, and traditional marriage. All her stories give you a sense of hope with a sprinkle of sadness, just what I love. She gives a new take on African stories as she blends them with western ones.

This book had me thinking a lot while appreciating her skill at the same time. My favorite story was ‘On Monday Last Week.’“It’s one of the things she has come to love about America, the abundance of unreasonable hope’ One of the many quotes in the book.Rating:

All your perfects by Colleen Hoover

One of my favorite authors is Colleen, and after reading 10 of her books, I had to add one more. In typical Colleen fashion, I cried reading this book. It is about a couple, Graham and Quinn, who are trying to save their marriage, but life still denies them what they truly want. It touches on their memories and secrets that are now tearing them apart.Quinn, most of the time, is drowning in depression, grief, and shame while Graham tries to make her happy with no success. The pain portrayed by the author makes you feel like you’re experiencing the same. In the end, I was still smiling through the tears.A quote from the book

‘Every day I miss you, when I’m at work I miss you when I’m home I miss you, when you are next to me in bed, I miss you When I.m inside you I miss you.’

Fuck Love by Tarryn Fisher

I hated love but wanted it at the same time in this book. She takes you on a roller coaster of emotions you never thought you could experience.I loved how she covered the story of ‘the other woman but not really’ in this story to show the emotions of everyone involved in a love triangle. The main character goes through heartbreaks disappointments and occasional smiles. Helena and Kit’s story is one of love and hurt combined. You don’t know what the end game is until the very end.I wanted to get a Purple tattoo after this book and I have never even dreamt of getting any. It also shows that literal dreams can come true literally.😂😂You can’t put this book down once you start reading it. With the end of each chapter, you HAVE to know what is going to happen next. Quotes:You shouldn’t have to convince anyone to choose you. There is no real choice in loveYou’re a dead language, you know that? No one is like you, and you are like no one.Rating: 5/5

Destiny’s Surrender by Beverly Jenkins
Beverly (as if we are friends) is a well-known history romance writer and I fell in love with this book. This book.set in 1885  follows the life of a black prostitute who falls for one of her bosses** Drew, so to speak. It started out like an erotica book I was a bit worried that it would turn out like some of the boring romance books on Wattpad and Inkitt that have no storyline at all.
Thank God it had more to it, the story was beautifully executed and I fell in love with Billy’s feminist like nature and her independence made her more likable given the setting.It was a welcome relief to see that Billie isn’t immediately changed just because her status has; in fact, even at the end of the novel, she stays the same.QuotesCareful, young woman. Smart-mouthed females are prized hereRating:3.5/5
The genie within by Harry W. Carpenter

According to me, this is a sequel to the power of your subconscious. It relates in so many ways with the underlying theme being that our thoughts become our reality and that most of the things in life happen because of our minds whether positive or negative.He dies an exceptional job of using logical metaphors, real-life examples, and just enough scientific jargon to clearly communicate the vital role your subconscious mind plays in your everyday life.It teaches you how to program and use your subconscious mind to your advantage instead of to your detriment by letting it operate by default. You can practically change anything about yourself once you understand this book.QuotesEvery thought or idea causes a physical reaction. If stimuli are allowed to pass from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind—and are accepted—the idea or thought must be expressed, vocally, or physically. If it is consciously repressed, then the thought will be expressed physicallyRating: 4/5Reality Transurfing by Vadim ZelandI would call this book the father of the genie within and the likes. I am almost done with all its 800 pages, Its a really big book but the lessons I have got from it are worth all the time spent.Transurfing is the audacity to CHOOSE your own life.This is a new reality where any of your CHOICES are realized, but only on the condition that you consciously and completely take responsibility for them.I have 5 more chapters left but so far I know that if you apply the lessons you get from this book in every aspect of your life, it will surely get better.QuotesTransurfing is a powerful tool for managing reality. Apply it and life will begin to change according to YOUR order.When the mind wants to hope it refuses to listen.The hardest role to play is the one where you play yourself and allow yourself to remove the mask and be yourself.Rating4.5/5
